How to Delete a Nickname from an Autocomplete List
Summary
AutoComplete is a feature which displays suggestions for names and e-mail addresses as you begin to type them. These suggestions are possible matches from a list of names and email addresses that you have typed before, known as the AutoComplete name list.
This is a nice feature, but can cause problems when email addresses change for various reasons.
Description/Steps for Resolution
How does AutoComplete Work?
The AutoComplete feature is turned on by default, and displays
suggestions for names as you type them in the following situations:
- To, Cc, and Bcc boxes in an e-mail message.
- To boxes in meeting requests, tasks, and share requests.
- Email field in a contact card.
When you type the first letter of a name in one of these boxes,
AutoComplete begins to suggest possible matches based on names you have
typed before. The more letters you type, the greater the possibility of
AutoComplete finding a match.
Click the name you want to enter in the box. If you are using the
keyboard, select the name using the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys, and
then press ENTER (or TAB). If no suggestion matches what you are typing,
continue typing. The AutoComplete feature will remember what you typed
the next time you type that name.
Names that you use less frequently will move lower in the list over time, and eventually will no longer appear.
How do I delete a NickName from the AutoComplete list?
When the list of nicknames is displayed, while entering a name into
the To: field, you can move through the list of possible e-mail
addresses (like above) with the arrow keys, or with your mouse.
When you have highlighted an address that you want to remove from
your AutoComplete list, you may press the Delete key on your keyboard or
click on the small X to the right of the selected e-mail address. (See
